2009 Dirt Track Shootout / George Steitz Memorial Race. Same Great Race, New Venue
Bakersfield, CA – The date has been set for the 2009 edition of the Dirt Track Shootout / George Steitz Memorial Race. October 22nd, 23rd & 24th marks the return of the popular end of the season open show race out west.
The Dirt Track Shootout has seen many facilities on the west coast over the years since its conception. From San Jose Speedway to Watsonville Speedway, Chowchilla Speedway to Kings Speedway, but one thing that has never changed is the anticipation of the event at the end of each year. After the passing of one of California’s most respected special event promoters, George Steitz, the Dirt Track Shootout race was chosen to honor him with a memorial race ever since.
After the past two years at Kings Speedway in Hanford, CA. this year’s race will be held at the West’s Fastest 1/3 Mile High Banked Clay Oval in Bakersfield, Ca the Bakersfield Speedway. “It has been great to work with Frank Dias and the staff at Kings Speedway, and I would like to thank them for hosting the event for the past two years.” Stated longtime event promoter Tom Sagmiller. Bakersfield Speedway owner Scott Schweitzer was quick to add “I really look forward to hosting this year’s Shootout. I’m also excited to be working with Tom on this event that so many racers have enjoyed racing at over the years”
The Shootout will once again be hosting modifieds, street stocks, hobby stocks and mini stocks over the three day event. With Bakersfield Speedways long history of strong car counts and the popularity of the Dirt Track Shootout’s, the 2009 edition should be one to remember. The tradition begins on Thursday October 22nd with an open practice to get one last chance to dial in your car for the weekend. Thursday night’s practice is followed by a BBQ get together in the pits. Friday October 23rd will see heat races for all division, trophy dash’s and pre A main races followed by all main events scheduled for Saturday October 24th.
Scott Schweitzer added about this year’s race “I’m looking forward to continuing this great event and hoping to build it even stronger in the years to come. With the history of the event, and the history of my track, it’s a perfect match”
