| what about the setup of a mini stock? is it about horsepower and setup like suspension or no? or is it just plain out how fast your car is | |

| given the choice between handling and handling and horsepower, one should always take both. The cars aren't supposed to have much in the way of set-up, (stock suspension, stock shocks, same tire size) leaves you with tire pressure and toe in or out. Rear wheel drives get camber, but that's not much. I know that new struts would be a help but not much can be changed unless your spending money and disguising these parts (you can buy them like this). I know that some guys play around with shifting or adding wt especially in the crx's. There are a lot of places to hide wt in a ministock. The prelude and integra handling package is tough to beat. Something else that I have heard but never tried are bigger fuel injectors with a bigger pressure pump. | |

| You need both.. The horsepower for the prelude is less than the integra's but i believe the prelude is faster. If you over build a car it may have a ton of HP but it will be difficult getting the power to the floor.. What good is slipping your tires down the straights. I wouldn't go out and buy newer springs.. I think I like my springs soft. You can do a lot with tire pressure.. as well as your toe. I would try to center all of my weight as best as possible. You can adjust your distributor for optimal performance... Remove some smog stuff... You definitely need a fast car.. A prelude was honda's sports car at the time.. Your not gonna have as good a chance at winning with an accord which was made for family comfort, not hugging twisty rodes. I wouldn't bother with bigger injectors... one your crossing lines.. two unless you remap your computer I dont think you would be at any advantage because the computer is still telling the injectors stock codes.. About different tire sizes... if you wanted to do some good research... take a tape measure to the pepboy tire department and measure around 3 different brands of 205/60/14's. They are all different but stamped the same tire size. BTW I dont do this, but its a good idea.

| I think most top runners just simply keep there foot to the floor for 20 laps. Easier said than done. | |

| an escort just cannot keep up with the Honda's. The Honda have a better gear ratio, more torque, more horse power. | |

| Pretty obvious that the cars to beat in the mini stock class are Honda Motor Corp. If you want to be near the front of the pack thats what I would run if I was racing. I think most people will tell you the same thing. | |

| The Escort suffers from lack of horsepower, its top heavy and not very wide. It doesn't have the near the handling characteristics of the Hondas. You can spend $2000.00 to make it faster. Put in a new motor that is balanced and with better parts, but you won't gain the 40 horsepower that you need without making the motor really illegal. (hondas have 135 - 150 hp, the best an escort will do is 110 The balance in the car is tougher to gain. I believe the Hondas are lower, wider and better balanced as an initial platform. The only way to gain this is by shifting wt around. Usually you have to add some. The CRX's were balanced with wt in the rear. You might try this in the escort. You might consider Escort GT parts for suspension pieces. (probably an illegal swap, but cheaper than changing cars) also try stiffening up the frame of the car with roll bar tubing up front and in the back connected to the main roll cage and frame. My best advice is to get a prelude. The initial expense is more, but the overall expense is less to be competitive. | |

| The escort was used in Rally racing in Europe for years. They have a lot of potential. ( I just typed a huge piece but some how it didn't make it on the board). We built one a few years back and my grandpa Barney still has it for sale.. David Childress drove it one for fun during a heat and it was fast, and I believe Billy Jr. drove it this year and finished 2nd in his heat.. They can be fast cars. We built an 88GT and rebuilt the old motor. It is fast. It came with a stock header. which is cool. I believe they were about 110 HP. The 84-87 Preludes were only 110 hp and they win races. I believe escort could totally be a top 5 car. If something came up with my car and i couldnt race it I would try to prove it. If some one wants a fast race ready escort call Barney at 871-0996 I think he is asking $1200 or so..

| well lets put it this way. i run honda's and such at famosa i have 94 honda civic hx jdm swap. the car has a ls block with a vtec head duel cams. full bottled and everything. i just dont want to run a honda anymore. u know. id like to turn it into a dirt car but i have to much money and time into the car. to just swap it over plus the cage work that is already done is bogis for dirt racing lol. but.
along wit the fact that escorts do have power this car has ran out at the track before that i have. it acutally ran this year before the guy that used to run it got read ended by a PRELUDE lol..... so and for the escort that is for sale i have seen it many times i live in oildale i acutally pass it every morning for work. on roberts lane lol but the thing is i picked this car i have now up for 300 dollars think that is a steal. | |

| I haven't been following who has been winning really closely this year... I stand corrected. Not to mention the guy who was driving berger's old 00 Accord was fast too. It's possible to win in one but why not build a prelude for the same costs. PMS, I broke a tie rod, and an axle and much of the suspension assembly. I don't know what broke first. When I spun the wheel jerked outta my hands hard enough to make my shoulder sore for a couple of days. OH well it was a fun night. 4h raced me nice and clean, I could hear him coming on strong. I'll be back in 2 weeks for the next race. | |
